Ever wonder how the world's oil companies operate? Oiligarchy gives you a glimpse of what our oil industries do, how they search the vast lands and seas for oil, and how they operate and trade their oil business and have the entire world thirsty for it. This game may shed some bad light over the oil companies (and this is totally bad news for them), but the game is just as great as the message it tries to purvey.

I was highly curious about this game knowing that oil is one of the highly demanded consumer products worldwide and how countries go loco just to control an oil operation. I thought the game was interesting and inspiring.

I take the role of a CEO of a worldwide oil company in the game. I do land and sea exploration, ground drilling, and oil extracting. I can also expand my oil empire with the huge income I earn in a year. However, if you take the game seriously (and think like a real CEO), the thought of high oil demand and high oil addiction rate will certainly drive you to go explore more locations and drill and extract more oil. You'll even feel happy if the politicians in the White House supports your business.

I actually felt neutral when I first played the game. I went along with the business, expanding and increasing as much as I could. However, the pang of guilt finally hit me when I saw trees being chopped down, animals running away, and natives of the land forced to leave the place. Also, the continued protests of the environmentalist groups really made a huge effect on the business.

"Enjoy while supplies lasts." That's the message of the game. I love the game because it made me realize how these oil companies operate and how they can (even in a simple way) manipulate the government. The world has been totally oil-crazy and oil-driven lately and we barely realize the price we're going to pay. This game shows just that.

I rate this game a perfect 5. It's addicting and enjoyable but it's the lesson and message of the game that really made me give my two thumbs up.

Did you enjoy Oiligarchy, too? Were you able to reflect on the lesson behind the game?
